How a brief to be flexible led to an award-winning retail space.
The Brief
Barclays Bank were looking to remodel all their flagship stores across the UK. They wanted us to create a lighting design that had high impact and created an impressive space for customers, while also being flexible enough to be appropriate for all Barclays’ flagship stores and the diverse buildings they occupy.
Our Approach
We created a standard lighting design that could be used in all flagship sites, then added bespoke feature lighting to highlight aspects of each individual branch. The standard design was inspired by art gallery lighting, creating a welcoming ambiance for customers. Bespoke features such as halo fittings in Brighton helped to bring out the unique characteristics of each of the flagship buildings.
The Solution
We worked with architects Aukett Tytherleigh on the design of the Piccadilly Circus flagship branch, using lighting to help them deliver an inspiring, friendly and original environment. The branch has since been awarded the Architectural FX award for Best Retail Space.
I've worked with Owen for a number of years and he and the team behind him have continually performed and led the way in offering creative solutions to problems, but also offering solutions that are commercial.
