Wokefield Park Hotel PH Groups

Complete refurbishment Wokefield Park Hotel, PH Groups. The 79group were awarded the full MEP refurbishment package of 45 rooms including luxury suites, BMW Training Centre and Executive Centre. 

The Brief

Dating back to the 1720s, the mansion house that stands at the heart of Wokefield Estate was built by Charles Parry.

Having started out as a St Benedict's Approved School, the mansion house was grade II* listed in 1967 and converted to a hotel in 1984.. 

The Mansion House is close to completing an extensive refurbishment, bringing 21st-century touches to the rich heritage and detailing of the original building. Whilst the modern executive centre, Wokefield Place, has completed its renovation. 

The project has seen the introduction of 95 new bedrooms and 54 fully-upgraded bedrooms, a new signature coffee shop, upgrade of function rooms, the executive centre, BMW training centre and a new reception with boot room, a new restaurant, bar and Whisky Lounge. 


Our Approach

The scope of the project grew from initial instruction of a light refurbishment to a full extensive refurbishment of the hotel with a new coffee shop and upgrade to function rooms, training centres and bars.  We were also approached to design and manufacture creative, bespoke lighting for the ceiling of the upgraded bars, a challenge we thrive on! Our teams carried out a full survey of existing services and created a new MEP design to suit the clients brief and vision for the refurbishment. A key consideration in delivering these services was that the hotel and functions suites had to remain fully operational at all times. 

The Solution

During the strip out phase our team of engineers had to re-wire the ground floor of the hotel. This took considered co-ordination and planning with the ceiling removal engineers who were operating above and below our area of work.  As the hotel and all kitchens had to remain fully operational, we installed sufficient temporary lighting, power and water to meet these demands. The old mains room was obsolete so a new one had to be installed.  All phone lines had to be rewired in a very limited timescale. We created an outside WIFI network that fed into building during the strip out phase until we were able to re-install WiFi back into building. We installed a new upgraded fully addressable fire alarm system on our recommendation.

Full MEP services included;

  • electrical works,
  • data, fire alarms,
  • a full air conditioning package throughout,
  • heating, new extract systems,
  • re-plumbing of entire hot and cold water to all services,
  • sanitary ware for bedrooms and public toilets. 

Rooms were handed back to the client in 4 phases in order to fulfill bookings.  To achieve all of the above it was imperative to build open, honest and fluid communication with the main contractor, client, onsite staff and other contractors. We all had the same aim, to deliver a truly outstanding, challenging but extremely rewarding project. 

The 79group have now worked with us to consistently deliver full MEP installation on six projects for our client PH Hotels. The scope has covered leisure facilities, restaurants, meeting rooms and over 200 bedrooms, including luxury suites. Working with a proactive and reactive company who offer the combined package of work helps us ensure that each project progresses smoothly, is fully coordinated & delivered on time.
